In 1998, a group of respected telecom business pioneers and technology visionaries recognized key trends in the telecom industry:

Digital technology was rapidly replacing first-generation, analog wireless systems

High-speed, third-generation technology clearly was on the way

A wave of operator mergers and acquisitions was likely to grow larger

Huge increases in market penetration could be foreseen in developed and emerging economies

These developments presented revenue opportunities for telecom operators and equipment vendors. However, widespread changes of this magnitude also created significant operational and technological challenges.

Many of these challenges were particular to wireless, which faces issues not present in wired environments, such as wireline and cable television. Intimately familiar with wireless and passionately committed to its development, the industry leaders formed inCode to address these business and technology issues.

From the beginning, inCode provided strategic, high-value business and technology consulting with a laser-like focus on comprehensive solutions for wireless businesses. This specialized approach met with immediate success in a complex industry where knowledgeable business consulting can be hard to find, and technology support often is narrowly targeted to tactical engineering projects. The company’s first client was a major U.S. wireless operator.

Looking Ahead

inCode is well positioned to capitalize on growth across the global wireless market. By 2009, analysts at The Yankee Group expect 2.8 billion registered wireless lines in use worldwide. This represents only 41.9 percent market penetration, leaving substantial room for additional saturation in developed and emerging markets.

Network operators and equipment vendors face constantly changing user demands and are planning new converged voice, data and video services over IP architectures. In addition, enterprises are rapidly adopting mobile voice and data technologies to enhance competitive advantage and productivity.

All of these businesses need independent, third-party expertise to develop and implement optimal business models. Traditional consulting and telecommunications engineering firms lack the depth of knowledge to address the complexities that wireless companies will continue to face. Since inCode is exclusively dedicated to wireless, the company has explored every corner of the business and “knows the neighborhood” best.

inCode specialists are uniquely prepared to help clients navigate the industry’s complexities and succeed in delivering effective, profitable wireless offerings worldwide.
